Commitment is not an option

FILED IN: LIFE COACHING

Recently, I read a quote that said, “Commitment is not an option; it’s a mindset.” I have been pondering this quote for a while.

In fact, I feel like my life is full of commitments, but I have always seen them as choices, necessities, or responsibilities. I have commitments to my work, my home, my kids, my church, my friends, and so on. However, I also know that many of these commitments could be optional.

I don’t have to do all the things I do, but even when I’m tired, even when I don’t have the resources, and even when I don’t have the support, somehow I find a way to push through and accomplish most of the things I commit myself to doing.

Thinking about it this way, the quote really makes sense to me: “It’s a mindset.” I cannot do all things through my own strength, but I know I can do all things through Him who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13)

I have climbed mountains, I have been through storms, I have walked on water, and I have traveled the road less traveled. All of this has happened because I committed myself to it—not simply because I chose to do it, but because I set my mind to it.
