Along the years I have lived in more than ten different homes, each move represented a special milestone in my life: moving to a better home, a new job, or a special life change. The one thing that was constant was the feeling of being home. It did not matter if the walls were dirty and needed a new coat of paint, or if it had carpets that needed to be ripped off to later show off beautiful stained floors, or if a rental was infested with mice that would very quickly make us run out of it. Each home was a special chapter that kept building upon each other- it was life offering new experiences, new perspectives, new adventures, new ways of doing life. I did not see it this way at the time until one day I found myself without a home, or what I thought a home was. In the past year and a half I moved homes four times. The process was quite painful, but again, the experiences lived in those months would have never been part of my history without having traveled that road. As I seat here, being woken up after midnight from a Happy Birthday text, all I can think is, home is where the heart is. I have always been home. Home, more than four walls, is where you feel safe, accepted, and loved. Home is a safe heaven here on earth.
