At the beginning of July the Guadalupe River overflowed causing lethal losses and we wonder how it is possible that a river could cause us so much damage. And the truth is that the main need of a river is the ability to flow freely. And rivers have several functions for our planet. According to Google, a river has multiple vital functions, the main one being the transport of fresh water to other bodies of water such as lakes, seas, or oceans, but it also plays a crucial role in erosion and modeling the landscape, and is a source of water for human consumption, agriculture, and industry.
Human life is not very different from that of a river. It also has the need to flow freely so as not to cause damage. According to Google, the main function of a human being, like that of any living being, is survival and reproduction, ensuring the continuity of the species. However, unlike other living beings, humans also have complex functions such as the ability to reason, artistic creation, development of technology, and construction of complex societies with culture and value systems.
Rivers are often altered by human activity when building dams, roads, or other infrastructures; in the same way, human beings are altered by fears and doubts, habits and resistance to change, lack of motivation and not having clear goals, distortions and negative beliefs, and many times lack of discipline. Human beings are also very affected by external factors such as the lack of support of our loved ones, cultural norms, financial pressures and responsibilities, and events in our lives that have caused us some trauma.
Despite all these obstacles, human beings are able to develop resilience and cultivate skills that help us to know ourselves and raise self-confidence, as well as to seek positive influences and social support that helps us not only to adapt to the different changes and stages of our life, but also to cope with difficulties in an effective and fluid way!
